We have worked hard preparing Synergee Fitness to re-open the doors and will ensure the safety and health of our members and team going forward.
From the day Synergee opened, almost 9 years ago, we have always prioritized the health and safety of our members and team, and our standards for cleanliness have always been high. The COVID-19 pandemic requires us to take it to an even higher standard at this time.
Our goal is to meet, or exceed, the new health and safety parameters laid out by the government. It is important to recognize that public health information and orders can change quickly, therefore, we will be updating standards regularly and as quickly as possible.
We’re in this together, and we need to work together to keep everyone healthy and safe. By taking care of those around us, we are also taking care of our community. We look forward to welcoming you back at Synergee Fitness.
We are closely monitoring all government guidelines and will only reopen when we are comfortable that it is safe to do so. This means not only having the green light from the government and public health officials but, also being confident that we have our standards in place so members and our team feel safe coming back.
We will notify members via email the date of reopening. In this email, you will receive important information about your membership and ways to prepare for the return. Please ensure your email is up to date.
Safety and cleaning practices
As we reopen Synergee Fitness, we are introducing a number of new cleaning practices and protocols in order to protect the health and safety of our members, team and community. While many of these new practices will be adopted by our team, our members also have a very important role to play in helping us maintain these practices and protocols.
Updates to our safety and cleaning practices:
We will undergo an intensive, deep cleaning, prior to reopening.
We will maintain our clean, sanitized and pristine environment.
We have opened up Studio 1 and 2 to make one large open area to ensure proper social distance measures.
We have disinfectant (approved by Thunder Bay District Health Unit) and contact sanitizer that will be used for frequent touch-point areas.
There will be 10 minutes of dedicated cleaning time (approved by Thunder Bay District Health Unit) after every class and/or personal training session.
Our team will adopt a “constantly cleaning” mind-set, ensuring special attention is always given to high-touch surfaces.
Members will be required to wipe down their equipment after each use. To make this convenient additional spray bottles will be at strategic locations.
Locker availability will be reduced and cleaned after each use to ensure it is safe for the next member. If you rent your own locker, access will remain available.
Booking and capacity
All bookings must be made online. With online booking, we are finding a balance between providing the safest gym environment possible and an exceptional experience for our members. Members will be guaranteed their workout time and we will maintain a safe gym capacity to ensure physical distancing and reduce the potential spread of communicable illnesses.
Please ensure you bring your Synergee Fitness key tag when you come for your workout. This will ensure you start your workout on time. You will be required to scan your key tag using our touchless scanner.
Members will be permitted to book only one session/class or time slot per day. We will have open gym time vacancy available as we organize current schedule – stay tuned for notification. Each time slot is 45 minutes in length.
Members who no-show within the 3 hour time slot that they have booked will be charged $5.00 plus HST.
At the end of a workout timeslot, all members must leave the gym, regardless of their gym entry time.

Attending your session
Personal Training clients:
Clients are required to either wait in their vehicle or wait outside prior to your booking start time. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your start time and your trainer or reception staff will provide access into the gym. You will be screened with questions to ensure your health and safety as well as others, you will be required to sanitize your hands, leave outdoor shoes at the front entrance, and scan your Synergee Fitness key tag. Your trainer or receptions staff will lead you to your assigned workout space.
Members attending class:
Members are required to line-up outside the gym, prior to the booking start time. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your start time. Please ensure you keep your physical distancing. Your coach or reception staff will provide access into the gym. You will be screened with questions to ensure your health and safety as well as others, you will be required to sanitize your hands, leave outdoor shoes at the front entrance, and scan your Synergee Fitness key tag. You will be assigned a pod for your workout area.
We would like to thank all our members and clients for running memberships during our closure in support of Synergee Fitness. We are sincerely grateful and appreciate your kindness. This kind gesture has helped us immensely, with ongoing overhead expenses. During our closure we have provided these members and clients daily virtual fitness classes, including Yoga and Pilates.
Memberships have been reassessed and modified for gym safety and capacity moving forward. Please review changes here.

In addition to the vigorous standards we are implementing, we are also providing varied options to accommodate our members and clients, such as virtual personal training and classes. If you are not ready to return to the gym, we understand, and will accommodate you as best as we can.
Amenities and equipment
When we reopen the gym, strict capacity requirements will be set to ensure Synergee Fitness is meeting or exceeding the recommendations set by public health authorities. We will also temporarily close services and amenities where physical distancing is not possible or where other risk factors may be present.
The below amenities will be available but reduced.
Water Fountain and water station
Members are encouraged to bring a pre-filled water bottle for their workout. We will have filled water bottles available for purchase. Members are not permitted to drink directly from water fountains or sinks.
Synergee Fitness has implemented a number of measures including signage and pod stations to ensure physical distancing can be achieved. Members are still expected to use best judgement when determining if a piece of equipment or workout area can be used safely while maintaining the recommended 2 metres of physical distancing.
Mats, foam rollers and bands will not be available for use at this time to ensure health and safety measures. We encourage members and clients to bring their own mats/towel or small pieces of equipment such as foam rollers and bands.
To reduce the number of potential touch points the following services and amenities will remain temporarily CLOSED (as per guidelines by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit) until further notice:
Changerooms and washrooms
Washrooms and changerooms will remain open to members, clients and staff, however, proper physical distancing must be maintained at all times. We will allow only 3 members in the change room at one time. We appreciate all members, clients and staff to respect this health and safety measure.
Members with rental lockers will have access to their lockers. If allowed by government guidelines, daily use lockers will be available. In order to ensure physical distancing and cleanliness, locker capacity has been reduced. Daily use lockers will be cleaned after each use to ensure it is safe for the next member. We ask that members leave daily use lockers open after their workout. If the locker is closed, it is clean and is safe to be used by the next member.
Showers are available. Towel service will resume although we do recommend that you bring your own towel for sanitation purposes. Showers will be sanitized before and after each use.
Hair dryers are not available.
Due to health and safety measures, members are not permitted to bring their own hair dryers and curling irons.
We will have only one staff available at the front desk. We ask for your patience as we do our best to assist you with any questions you may have. We will do our best to address questions as promptly and safely as we can. Please ensure you maintain physical distancing at reception area and avoid any unnecessary gathering.
We appreciate and understand the gym has been a place to socialize and build a strong culture and community of friends but, at this time of ensuring health and safety measures, we encourage members to gather outside our facility to enjoy each others company ensuring physical distancing.
Personal training will be available in the gym, as well as through virtual training.
In order to reduce the potential for contact and/or movement around the gym, please ensure the below guidelines are followed at all times:
- To ensure proper physical distancing measures, no physical contact will be permitted in Personal training sessions. Contact must not occur unless needed to ensure safety and prevent injury.
- Handshakes and physical greetings are not permitted.
- Clients must be prepared to handle their own weights and equipment. Workouts must be modified so as not to require spotting.
- All equipment used will be cleaned and sanitized after use.
Virtual Personal training
Synergee Fitness now offers an exciting option for our Personal training clients in order to allow them to continue with their sessions from the comfort of their home. Virtual training will provide an easy way for clients to get back into their fitness journeys without having to book time in the gym. This is a great option for clients who are not quite ready to come back into the gym, yet allowing them the opportunity to stay connected with their trainer/coach.
No changes to your current Personal training package are required. Current sessions in inventory, as well as new sessions purchased, can be used for both in-gym or virtual training.

Members will continue to have access to our amazing live classes. Studios have been modified to ensure physical distancing is possible and to keep members in safe pod stations with 2 metre distancing. We have opened up studio 1 and 2 to make these physical distancing measures possible. Classes have been modified where possible to ensure less movement and keep distancing at a maximum.
Class check-in Process
Members must wait outside the gym at the beginning of their time slot and enter the gym at the same time as the other participants in the class maintaining physical distancing. Reception staff will direct you into the gym with proper protocol ensuring health and safety measure. See above – attending classes.
Class Set-Up and Clean-up
You will be assigned a pod station when you arrive at the gym. You will go directly to your assigned pod station and wait for your coach to assign the equipment required for the workout. You will be required to sanitize your equipment after use. Sanitation bottle and paper towels will be conveniently placed at your pod station. You must remain in you pod station and your coach will direct class participants to exit the studio in a safe manner. Please be patient as we want to ensure safe physical distance measures. We ask that you leave the studio and gym immediately after class for staff to come in and sanitize for the next group.
We will continue to offer virtual classes once the gym reopens. This option will be available with an added cost to membership.
